A Home on the Rolling Deep

In this book are stories of eight captains and one sailmaker-published just as they were written down more than 60 years ago, also without corrections or notes. These men had to have been-without exception- strong-willed. The captain of a vessel had to take control and keep it, and anyone who crossed him was in serious trouble, if not in leg irons. The Master was responsible for protecting someone else’s property (the ship), a hold full of cargo and the lives of sailors- quite possibly in that order of importance.
