Picturing Chatham: American Landscape Painting: 1880-1977

Historically, activity in the visual arts in Chatham has been overshadowed by the better-known schools and personalities in Provincetown and other Cape communities. Yet the mid to late 19th century saw the presence here of a number of talented artists, many (but not all) relatively obscure today. Chatham was a smaller, quieter , more homogeneous community with a more challenging and perhaps, to some, a more picturesque landscape.
