Costumes and Other Textiles

The costume and textile collection includes over 45 gowns, dating from the late 1840’s to the 1920’s, plus bonnets, gloves, shoes, bags and other accessories. Among a wide variety of other items are christening dresses, beaver top hats, a weighted whaling skirt, along with hand sewn quilts, and floor coverings.

The collection is now housed in the recently completed workroom and storage area on the lower level, providing adequate space for preserving, maintaining and storing the society’s textiles collection.
