American Revolution on Cape Cod and Islands

This session will focus on the critical events during the Revolutionary Period which took place on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket, within the context of the larger events in the colonies as a whole. Included will be shipwrecks, Parliamentary Acts which led to rebellion, important individuals in this region who played key roles in this time, military engagements, privateering, and other local events which eventually led to American independence. The book on which the presentation is based will be available for purchase after the session.

About David Martin:
Dr. David Martin is Chair of the Cape and islands Historians Committee, which was responsible for the publication of the book whose highlights you will enjoy learning about today. He has degrees from Yale, Harvard, and Boston College. He is Professor/Dean Emeritus from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC—the world’s only university for Deaf university students. He has previously been a teacher, school administrator, and curriculum developer. He lives with his wife in Marstons Mills.
