Six Passengers tell the story of their journey on the Mayflower to the New World

Governor William Bradford

William Bradford, age 30, and his wife, Dorothy (May) Bradford, age 23, immigrated from Leiden to Plymouth on the Mayflower in 1620. They were part of the Brewster’s Scrooby congregation and the Leiden group of Separatist Pilgrims. He signed the Mayflower Compact. Their son, John was “left behind [in Leiden] who came afterward.”

Mary Brewster

Mary, (maiden name unkown) was married to
William Brewster, were passengers on the Mayflower with two of their sons, Love (age 9) and Wrestling (age 6). Their eldest son, Jonathan, came in 1621 on the Fortune, and their daughters, Patience and Fear, came in 1623 on the Anne. Mary died in Plymouth in 1627.

Captain Myles Standish

Captain Miles Standish and his wife Rose immigrated to Plymouth from Holland on the Mayflower in 1620. He was the ‘soldier’ of the colonists, serving also as councilor, assistant, deputy to the Governor, and treasurer.

Susanna White Winslow

Susanna was the wife of William White and immigrated from Leiden with their son Resolved to Plymouth on the Mayflower in 1620. William died at Plymouth 21 February, 1621, and Susanna married her second husband, Edward Winslow in Plymouth 12 May, 1621.

John Howland

John Howland, age about 28, from Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire, immigrated on the Mayflower in 1620 as a manservant to Mr. John Carver. During a bad storm, John, whom Bradford describes as “a lusty young man,” was swept overboard but grabbed a topsail halyard. He was pulled up after nearly drowning “and though he was something ill with it, yet he lived many years after and became a profitable member both in church and commonwealth.”

Constance Hopkins

Constance was the daughter of Stephen Hopkins and his wife Elizabeth. Born in 1607, Constance had three siblings, Giles, Damaris and Oceanus all who immigrated from London on the Mayflower in 1620. In 1629, Constance married Nicholas Snow in Plymouth after he had arrived to the new world on the ship Anne in 1623.
